Big celebrations were organised by the NGOs. The blue krama (traditional khmer scarf) was the symbol for the day, representing human rights defenders. The theme of the day: we are all human rights defenders. The traditional krama is red. The Khmer Rouge used the red krama as a simbol of its regime to demonstrate its will to turn Cambodia into an agricultural society and nation. Peasants use the krama as a towel, sarong, to cover their heads from the sun, and a thousand other ways.
